Kitchen Safety



  1. Always have an adult nearby to help and supervise.
  2. Always wash your hands before you start cooking. Also, wash your hands after handling raw meat.
  3. Read the entire recipe before cooking to make sure you have all the necessary ingredients. Also check expiration dates on ingredients that can spoil.
  4. Follow the recipes step by step. Missing a step may change your entire recipe.
  5. If your recipe calls for fruits or vegetables, remember to always wash them thoroughly before beginning the recipe.
  6. When cutting raw meat and poultry, use a cutting board that is used only for meat and poultry. Other utensils and cutting boards should not be touching raw meat and poultry. They should be separate from other foods because they may have germs that can make you sick.
  7. Children should not cook anything on the stove, in the oven or microwave without adult help.
  8. Always have an adult supervise when turning on appliances, like the stove, oven, blenders and mixers.
  9. Always turn off mixers and unplug them when putting in or taking out beaters.
  10. Keep all electrical appliances away from water to avoid shock. Never plug in appliances with wet hands.
  11. Always ask an adult for help when using sharp knives or utensils.
  12. Always turn pot handles on the stove away from yourself.
  13. Always use oven mitts when handling hot things.
  14. Ask an adult for assistance when taking hot pans in and out of the oven.
  15. Always clean counter messes and spills immediately for safety and cleanliness.
